About Dubrovnik Research Library

The Dubrovnik Research library (part of Dubrovnik Libraries) is a general-science institution aimed at research and scientific requirements of scholars, academic community and other members of the public who wish to use the funds, resources and services of the Library. The Dubrovnik Research library is also open and oriented towards cooperating with domestic and international agencies, associations and individuals with whom it shares mutual goals of developing science and research. 

The Research library operates on two locations: baroque palace Bassegli-Caboga in the Old town and renaissance summer villa Stjepović-Skočibuha in Boninovo, east of the city walls.

LOCATIONS AND OPERATING HOURS:

PALACE BASSEGLI-CABOGA – Cvijete Zuzorić 4, Mon, Wed and Fri 8:00 – 14:00, Thu and Thu 14:00 - 20:00. 

The baroque palace Bassegli-Caboga in the Old town Dubrovnik holds locally and nationally significant heritage collections (see under heading: Collections) which have been preserved and cultivated in the Research library since its foundation.  The palace is also the official seat of Dubrovnik libraries, with the Director's office, administration, accounting and IT department.

VILLA STJEPOVIĆ-SKOČIBUHA – Anice Bošković 28, Mon – Fri 8:00 – 14:00

The renaissance villa Stjepović-Skočibuha in the Boninovo area (east of the city walls) is the depository department for all the remaining collections of the Research library: Croatian Legal deposit (books, periodicals, AV materials, ephemera, maps ...), General collection (gifts etc.) with and a part of Reference collection.

Our mission is to promote efficient and sustainable creation, dissemination and preservation of knowledge and to advocate a public policy which enables open information access while supporting social sensitivity and information equality.

We aim to permanently develop library collections and services suitable to the needs of the community and care for all the library's holdings.

Research library with its immensely valuable heritage collections and services contributes to development of science and visibility in the world research community. By preserving monuments of written word as well as other media it contributes to developing and preserving the local and national cultural identity.

Research library works in an international research environment of digital culture, technical innovations and open science initiative. By strengthening its teaching centre for researching Dubrovnik's heritage it reinforces its own position in Croatia and worldwide.
